Common questions
Pricing and Quotes
Is the quote really free?
Yes, quoting costs nothing, and that's true whether you go ahead with the job or not. We look over what's needed on site and put a full price on paper before any tool comes out of the van.
How do quotes work?
We visit, work out exactly what the job needs, and write up a fixed price covering labour, materials, GST and compliance paperwork. Should something unpredictable turn up, we pause, explain it, and get sign-off on the new number before continuing, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No, there's no call-out fee just to have a look, whether it's a single power point or a full switchboard assessment. You only pay once you've agreed to a fixed written price and given us the go-ahead to start.
How do I pay?
You settle up once we've finished, tested and signed off the job. We run through the ways to pay when we quote, and there are no hourly rates or hidden extras for travel or admin tacked onto the bill.
Common questions
Licensed, Insured and Done Properly
Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?
No, DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW, with only a handful of trivial exceptions such as replacing a light bulb. Everything beyond that needs a licensed electrician, and notifiable electrical work has to be tested and lodged with NSW Fair Trading before it gets signed off.
What is AS/NZS 3000?
AS/NZS 3000 sets the safety rules electrical work has to meet right across Australia, covering everything from cable sizing to circuit protection. We test every job against it, and it's the benchmark an inspector or insurer will expect your wiring to satisfy.
What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?
A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is the official record that notifiable work was carried out to standard and lodged with NSW Fair Trading. You'll get a copy after any job that needs one, sent through automatically once it's signed off.
What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?
A safety switch, or RCD, cuts the power in a split second if it senses a fault, which is what stops a shock from turning serious. Plenty of older properties were wired before they became compulsory, and fitting one to every circuit is a straightforward add-on during a switchboard upgrade.
Common questions
How Fast We Get to You
How fast can you get here?
It depends on the job and what's already booked in, but genuine emergencies jump the queue for a fast response. Non-urgent work often lands same or next day, and we confirm the actual time with you rather than guessing over the phone.
How do I book?
Call (02) 9134 9029, or fill in the form on our contact page; someone local will ring you back to lock in a time. Calling is fastest if the job's urgent, since it goes straight through to the team.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Sparking outlets, a burning smell, exposed wiring, or a switchboard stuck in the tripped position count as genuine emergencies. If it's dangerous, or the power's out to the whole house, call straight away rather than waiting on a routine booking slot.
How soon can you fit me in?
It depends on what's already on the board, but non-urgent jobs often land same or next day rather than weeks out. We'd rather give you a realistic time once we know the job than promise something we can't back up.
Common questions
Local Answers for Seaforth
Do you know Seaforth's housing stock?
Seaforth's housing stock mostly dates from the 1940s to the 1960s, with more added through to the 1980s, largely brick homes on blocks that slope down toward the harbour. A lot of the original switchboards and wiring in that older stock are well overdue for an upgrade.
Do you work on heritage/strata properties?
Seaforth is mostly freestanding houses rather than strata blocks, so the bulk of what we do here is residential work rather than common-property jobs. When a strata job does land, or an older home has original heritage-style wiring, the standard we work to doesn't change.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Yes, from a single circuit added during a renovation to the switchboard and wiring for a full rebuild. With so many older Seaforth homes being extended or renovated, staged electrical work is something we do regularly, fitting in around the other trades on site.
How local are you, really?
Seaforth and the surrounding Northern Beaches suburbs sit well inside our everyday coverage, not a one-off trip from across town. That means knowing the streets and the housing stock well enough to know what a job like yours is likely to need before we've even arrived.
